I think this is great because Itunes is such a great program that is easy to use and a ton of people know of it. Possibly they will create a free itunes or make it cheaper since many people steal music now.

This seems like a good idea and it's something that's never really been done before. It's a great way for artists to distribute their material, but users have to pay a monthly fee of $7 to get access to everything.
LimeWire originated as a free program to download music illegally. In the past, LimeWire wasn't as well known as it is today. Now, LimeWire is known specifically by the younger crowd who don't want to pay for music. LimeWire was recently found to be able to link up to Itunes illegally, and download songs and videos. In the past, there weren't many sites that were able to download music illegally, without getting canceled by the government. They usually were quickly found out by government officials who then fined people for the illegal downloads. However, LimeWire had the intelligent idea of just "file sharing" which would just be used to transfer the files to Itunes. Remarkably, their company hasn't been cancelled for illegal downloads quite yet. A current trend of theirs is their new LimeWire Pro which costs money, but is a great tool for downloading music. It is a better version of LimeWire the origional, however, more costly with the price ranges of $20-$30 dollars every 6 to 12 months. Currently, LimeWire is the most popular illegal site for downloading music and movies. It is used by millions of consumers who don't wish to pay the $1.99 per song. It is known by a vast amount of people, mainly the younger crowd. From what it seems like, because of LimeWire Pro, music will soon cost money. Unfortunately, to the younger generation, this will cause a huge decrease in LimeWire's popularity, which in turn will cause people to find other free downloading sites. By Samantha Lusignan
In most recent times there have been websites to listen to music and a few good sites are free but in todays world wide web there are now sites where you can listen, share, download and all sorts of great things like so with this great website.

Eventually I feel instead of having things like this for just your PC sitting at home people will be able to access sites like this through their portable media devices.
myspace provides music where people are able to download and upload music onto their page, even if it is their own music they have made, and for others they could be trying to become known as a music artist. You can also look up celebrity music artist's and download their music also.

the technology of ipods have risen as well. they do more then just play music now. they have gone from small mp3 players from apple to this huge trend in the music industry. they now have more memory, touch screens, different sizes, shapes, and colors, colored screens. there is endless opportunities to what the ipod company will be able to bring.
Internet radio is a service that has gained momentum within the last few years. With the advancement of technology, websites like Pandora are able to create personal "stations" based on a users preferences. The technology was first only available on the website, but there are not applications that enable it to be used on social networking sites like Facebook and on mobile devices.

I was introduce to this website this weekend by a coworker. I had never really given internet radio a try, but I am intrigued at the possibilities that Pandora has to offer. For one it shapes a station to the users likings. For instance, if you are a fan of Flogging Molly it uses a complex algorithm to find similar artists to Flogging Molly that the user may like. From there the user can root out what they like and don't like by rating the newer artists with a thumbs up or down. This is a really interesting way of introducing different bands/groups to people based on what they already like. One of its drawbacks is that it is not a free service, after so many hours of streaming there is a fee.
MP3 type files are the biggest trends at the present time. The MP3 offers convenience in it's size (with the option of hundreds if not thousands on a portable player) and it is inexpensive. Though as music formats shrink and become convenient for the consumer, the quality of the music decreases.

Believe it or not, it is true that MP3s and CDs sound crappy compared to vinyl (if you don't believe me check out the How It Works link). It is kind of ironic that with the transition from analog to digital that the sound would be degraded, but it is not surprising at the same time. The Mp3 file is still evolving though.
VH1 is a big music corporation for the music industry.
"VH1 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia." Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. 27 Oct. 2008 www.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vh1
Vh1 is very much like MTV. In fact, based on Wikipedia, they are sister companies. VH1 is such a great site because, like MTV it shows all the new music, news and movies that are out. It is a great trend. However, in my opinion, i think that MTV will take over it. I think music shows will son die out because no one is buying music online anymore.
Music inspire people, it can cure a bad day, it can make one cry. Music can be used as a powerful tool. Music has been played through many powerful devices over the years. In the past, music was played through big machines and cost a lot of money to play. For example the cassette and the cassette player. It holds little and low quality songs. It evolved into a mobile cassette player that anyone could take to work or run with. This past trend was very popular and almost every person had there head phones on listening to their favorite music. Now in the current age people can download free music off the Internet. With “people to people sharing” music files can be shared and downloaded to the users computer. For example programs like Lime Wire. This day in age the cassette player is an antic. It has been replaced by the Mp3 player. This current trend has evolved into the well known I pod. A very popular Mp3 player from the creators of Apple. This trend is a very unique, it is almost like a clan of people. For example if another I pod user see another with those white head phones, they are almost compelled to wave or give a head nod. The Future only holds what the new Mp3 player is or how the users will download. It is a definite pressure that is being put on the music business. With loosing money from sales.

The format has proven to be very popular. However, a change in the format, while allowing capacities greater than 4 GB (SDHC), has created compatibility issues with older devices which cannot read the new format. Since SDHC format cards have the same physical shape and form factor as the older format, this has caused considerable confusion for consumers.[2][3] SDHC cards require an SDHC capable device firmware, generally not found with older devices
in my opinion the age of cd's will soon cease. cd's have little data storage compared to the sd memory cards. i soon believe that music will be available on sd memory cards
lots of cellular phones come equipped with mp3 players and some sort of internet service in them to download making some easier then the ipods. i dont think ipods will fall out of style but i do think that cell phones are taking over that market
Music has a trend of having some new listening device about every ten years or so. Before the introduction of the radio and recording studios, music was only accessible through live performances. Once music was beginning to be played on the radio, the listening platforms went from records to 8-tracks to tapes to CDs and then to mp3 players. Although there has been a great advance in storage size since the introduction of records, it seems that every new listening device decreases the quality of the music. Apple’s iPod seems to be the most popular mp3 player on the market today and that is accompanied by the world’s largest online music retailer, iTunes. Although iTunes only charges 99 cents per song, there are other outlets available on the internet for users to download their music for free. LimeWire is the most used platform for downloading free music even though it is illegal. MySpace also offers a large selection of music for listening, but these are not available for free download unless the musician chooses to do so. Musicians are in a dilemma right now to figure out how to divert people from illegal downloading their material. Former blink-182 guitarist, Tom Delonge, has taken a step in that direction. His new music platform, ModLife, allows subscribers to download daily podcasts, exclusive audio and video clips and more directly from the musicians. While it’s great to take a step toward getting the music industry back on track, ModLife charges almost 10 dollars per month for full access to the site. Only time will tell where the music industry goes from here.
Music is a form of media that is very effective and it reaches out to many different types of people. There are a variety of different musical genres and they appeal to different people. In the past, people would get out and dust off their records or listen to their 8-track. Music in the past was general, not very diverse and geared to a specific audience. Another trend of the past is the cassette tape. With the cassette tape you would have to fast forward through songs to listen to what song you wanted to hear. Then came CD’s where you were able to choose the song and find it faster because it was attributed to a numbers. Current trends in the music industry include limewire and itunes. Limewire has gained popularity because it is a computer program where you can download music for free. Itunes is also very popular because it has enabled the user to store their songs and then put the songs on a portable device. There are more genres of music today because music is always evolving trying to satisfy the listening audience. Artists today get out their music through different websites. Whether it is Pure Volume or MySpace, music artists from around the world are able to get mass exposure around the world. The future of music is probably geared more to the listener. The listener knows what they want to hear. The future of making money by being an artist is not positive for the music industry. Artists will have to go on tours because they won’t make enough money since people will continue to download music for free.
Everyone listens to music. Music had been played by its viewers in many different ways, some better then others. In the past music was heard though big bulky machines such ass record players, cassette players, and even 8 tracks. All these different devices cost a lot of money back then and were ugly and didn’t even really do much. The sound quality were very bad and they weren’t portable. Latter came the portable cd player. The portable cd player was a very big hit. It wasn’t too expensive and the sound quality was a lot better. Currently the new way to enjoy your music is through mp3 players and of course the ipod. The ipod is a very nice device to hear your music it plays music through mp3 formant and in very good sound quality. Programs like limewire allow you to download your favorite songs for free and put them on your ipod or even cd if you choose to. This is a very big thing right now because people like the fact that they get to enjoy all there music and its free. They don’t have to go out to the store and buy a cd, they can comfortably get it through there computer. The ipod is portable, small, and can hold up to hundereds/thousands songs. In the future I believe that ipods well come with all cars and cd’s well be thrown away. An ipod will last a lot longer than a cd and you don’t have to worry bout it skipping.
In the past what was hot in music were 8-tracks, that was what most of the people were listining to. It was created in 1960 and was slowly disappearing by the 1980's. Cassette tapes also were hot in the 1970's to 90's and where one of the top common formats for music even when the cd's strarted coming out. Back in the pat there wasn't alot of different varities of ways to listen to music or get fast updates with whats new or whats hot at the time. But music has always been a hot item regardless of what you play it with. In the present we have so many ways of listening to music its not even funny. Music is around ous 24/7 no matter where we are you can access music. The interent is a big way to listen to music with all the websites now a days you can go on and listen to music. Ipods are one of the biggest ways of listing to music right now, you can take it where ever you go and they are getting smaller and smaller. Most of the phones now have a media player where you can have all your songs with you wherever you go. I think in the future there's going to be devices that will make the i-pod look weak and every mp3 player out now will not be able to compete. In the future the devices will have more storage room, more g.b., and will come in many different shapes and colors.

Music is becoming more popular now then ever. People of all ages are becoming more attached with the hobby, and there have been many changes in the way people listen to it. In the past, people used television channels like MTV and VH1 to learn about there music. The stuff they played on the channels were how viewers got into the music. What they saw and liked was what they were listening to more and more. People watched those channels because it was free, easy to get to and interesting. Now there are different ways of learning. A present way people are listening to music and learning about it is Ipods and music download websites. We used to listen to cassette players and cd players, but now that Ipods are out, that’s what all of America’s teenagers carry. What makes them help you learn about music is when you download music off itunes, you can browse through other artists and similar artists. Itunes makes convenience for buyers and users by giving them an easier way to learn about more music. People also enjoy the ipod because of the ability that it can hold so much more than a cd. Plus, you don’t have to keep changing a cd or a cassette, you just browse through your Ipod that can hold thousands of songs. Ipods make music more convenient for listeners which is why they have become so popular over the past few years. As for the next big thing in the music industry, I am thinking that there will be something bigger and better than Ipods. Ipods are already big now, but if the creators can make Ipods do something more for each individual customer, then they will benefit more. Ipods might even become able to download music off the ipod instead of a computer. Or maybe Itunes will allow songs and video to become cheaper or even free, which will attract users to buy more music from the website.
With the advancement in technology, ways to learn about music are becoming easier. In the past people were limited in how they learned about music. Radio and TV have played a major role in connecting people with music. When TV replaced radios dramatic content, music formats became dominant in many countries (Wikipedia – Music Radio). TV did start to get in on the action of music as well. At first there were variety programs for popular artists like Sonny and Cher or Johnny Cash, whom would perform and act for a studio audience and viewers. Though in the 1980s, two channels, MTV and later VH1, took music to a new level by introducing and encouraging music videos. During that decade, the two channels were true to their original concept by keeping the channel about music. I think it is in this way that many artists in the 80s gained their fame from MTV. With the advancement of music technology and the change in content for MTV and VH1, people turned to the internet for their music. Artists created websites that included biographies, merchandise, news, and possible tours. In this way, the internet connected people closer to the artists that they love and enjoy. Music was becoming more portable and convenient for the consumer. Data disc players and MP3 players enabled someone to carry more music than ever before. It is around this time that software like Napster, Limewire, iTunes, and Rapsody also connected people with music by making individual songs available. It is hard to say where music will go. Hard formats like CDs will probably disappear since digital versions of albums are easily attainable and always available. I believe the internet is key for music at this stage because people are able to connect with one another on websites like MySpace and YouTube to share music and music videos. Things are becoming more personalized though and will continue to, like in the case of the internet radio website Pandora or iTunes’ Genius.

Jerhi said... For music, music has became more advanced. Starting with record players ending up with iPods and mP3 players. For music there is many genres to choose from, from different languages to different beats and the choice of words. You can use many devices to play music such as cassette players, CD players, computers, game systems, mP3 players, and iPods and also iTunes, which is on computers. Most people now days steal music from illegal internet music downloading programs. For iTunes it is the most advanced music downloading program and its cheap so people who don’t steal music use the iTune program. There is music downloading programs such as LimeWire, Bearshare, and ModLife, where you can download your music for free, but its illegal, which most people don’t get caught, so many people take the chance. One of the most popular websites out there right now is MySpace, where you can actually download peoples music on their page, or you can look up who your favorite musicians and you can download most of their music also. These days you can download, share, and listen to music. The most popular music device out there is the iPods. IPods keep getting way more advanced everyday, they can hold a lot more songs and you can also put movies and TV shows on them. They also have iPhones where its like and mP3 player and a cell phone also, the most popular phone out there right now thanks to our advancements in this world. There is no telling what more advanced music will come out next.
MTV has been a huge source for the music industry but it is all going downhill now. Music sales on MTV are out and now the network is focusing more on reality TV shows such as the Hills and the show Next. In the past the music trend with MTV was a huge hit. “Phil Oakey, lead singer of the definitive 80s group Human League, says pop video channel MTV was vital to the band's global success. "If MTV had not happened along then, we would have had a very much smaller hit - it was perfect for us (www.news.bbc.com)." Most of what you would see on MTV had to do with music but since the music industry has been failing to keep the network going they switched over to what was the popular thing with mainly teenagers today. Music is still big in the world, don’t get me wrong, but since programs such as limewire and Ares has come about sales in the music industry are declining quickly. “Sometimes technology moves faster than capitalism. With digital music technology outpacing the record companies' ability to profit off of it, the recording industry is now trying to bully music fans away from downloading music on the Internet. But with so few legal websites available to find quality music, what's a music listener to do (www.keithboykin.com)?” Many people are finding ways to get their music from different sources so to keep MTV from not failing producers had to figure out what to do to keep the network going.
What are past and current trends in the music industry? Back in the days when music started to get big to me was i think in the 1950's even though it has been around for way longer. but back in like the 1950's you can only hear music through the radio. Because back in those days they didnt have televisions or they was barely getting them and at the time music videos wasnt even being made. nowadays we got all kinds of ways to get music. We have limewire which is a place where people can dowload music, we have itunes which is like a good place to buy and listen to music and itunes also comes with podcasts which you are able to download. Limewire is a really good tool for me because it allows me to be able to look up and listen to anything I want which helps me when im doing things like this because the music helps me concentrate. itunes is really good too for people with ipods because with out itunes its hard to get music on your ipods I think in the future the downloading of music will be made a lot easier with all the new versions of limewire that is happening already. I think it will be much faster and it will be able to detect viruses sooner before it downloads to your computer
The music media began as live music which gave a sense of reality, and involvement in the music witnessing it happen. As technology grew the media became more luxurious being able to listen to in at parties without all the annoyance of a live band in the vicinity. This was extremely expensive, and the quality was very low, but all in all it was considered well to do in the era. Music has always played a huge role in society because it has a lot to do with connection between men and women, people take emotions out when they hear a favorite song, and even it simply makes people happy. Of course there is a huge market in society for music to fill, and this is why people are always trying to come out with the next new gadget for that unmarked territory, get rich scheme. Today we have the accessibility of hearing our favorite songs by the touch of a button. Everyone has music, in the cars, in the pockets, on the phone, as a ring back tone, it is constantly a part of our daily lives. I could not imagine a day without hearing my favorite song, let alone all of them. Ipods have become part of our lives. I believe that the next big thing will be free downloadable music on Ipods with ten second commercials on them. There are many songs that finish with a beat and a guy saying ‘track fiends. Net. We got that fire.’ The first time I heard this I was amazed that someone actually came up with this idea. One downloads their music from lime wire, and barely recognizes this at the end of the song because the beat is so catchy. I believe that everyone knows about stealing their music online, but not about these advertisements at the end. Everyone would download them for free on Itunes if it was free, and at the end a short catchy beat came on. The beat may even change a long with the ad because more than likely the Ipods will have constant wireless. I think that this market is uncharted and will soon be vitalized all over as Trackfiends.net already has.
Music has been around for centuries coming at us in all different types and forms. One of the past technologies to listen to music it was records. records had a problems with getting scratched and breaking and not recording on to the record correctly. The quality of the music was bad and time consuming to get the music to play. Another past music player was the cassette tape. The cassette tape was all so bad quality and it took a while to rewind and fast forward. The tape were easily accessible and could play in the car, in the house, and in any cassette player. The could easily be destroyed if they were demagnetized or if the film was ripped it would ruin there whole tape. CD's are slowly becoming the past, they have pretty good quality in music and they are small and thin, making them easily accessible. CD disks are good unless they are scratched or snapped in half. CD's have had a long fight to stay in trends longer then any other type of music technology. CD's were for the car, home, and portable. An annoying problem it had was they could skip easily if bumped. Currently Mp3 players, and ipods are the current trends. You can transfer music from your computer to the Mp3 player and it is stored on to it. Mp3 players can hold hundreds to thousands of different songs. They don't skip and and they don't get scratched the only bad things about them is that it has limited storage space, and its time consuming to up load the music. A future possibility is advancing the Mp3 players by making them hold more music and easier to up load music. Also to be able to easily organize it. They will probably conjoin the cell phone with the mp3 player in an advanced way.
Music has been a major art form for the past thousands of years. For the longest time the only way that people could have listened to music would be to play an instrument or go see a concert. But sometime around the 1920s, the turntable was released and people listened to LP (Long Play) record albums. Music had also been broadcasted on the radio around this time. Music didn’t get its next big break until around the 1940s, when the 8-track tape was released, even though it didn’t become popular until the 1960s. After that, music devices evolved drastically. In the 1970s, the audiocassette tape was released. Then, in 1982, the audio CD (compact disk) came out. And in the 1990s, the MP3 was made popular, and MP3 players had been released. Today, the most popular way to listen to music is unrivaled by Apple’s iPod and the most popular place to buy music would be the iTunes store. It came out in 2001 and has been the number one music player ever since. But, like the news industry, the music industry is suffering. How? Because with the addition of the MP3 technology and digital music, along with the internet, people can now download music for free using P2P sharing sites, such as LimeWire, Kazaa, and BitTorrent. The future for the music industry looks bleak, but I think that artists can still be successful, just not as successful as they have been. Artists can still make a lot of money by playing concerts, appearing on television, and selling some music to different companies. But what will be the next big thing to happen to music. I think that maybe the music industry will come out with a product that will be able to automatically get new tracks from your favorite artists via RSS feed.

From what it seems like, because of LimeWire Pro, music will soon cost money. Unfortunately, to the younger generation, this will cause a huge decrease in LimeWire's popularity, which in turn will cause people to find other free downloading sites.

Lime Wire

We have limewire which is a place where people can dowload music, we have itunes which is like a good place to buy and listen to music and itunes also comes with podcasts
which you are able to download. Limewire is a really good tool for me because it allows me to be able to look up and listen to anything I want which helps me when im doing things like this because the music helps me concentrate. itunes is really good too for people with ipods because with out itunes its hard to get music on your ipods
I think in the future the downloading of music will be made a lot easier with all the new versions of limewire that is happening already.
